John Howard Scarecrow (2003)

This rendition of John Howard as a scarecrow won the 'most popular scarecrow' prize in the ACTEW AGL Scarecrow Competition 2003 in Floriade, Australia’s Celebration of Spring. The scarecrow is surrounded by two small boats and one rusty seive, all holding asylum seekers. It is commentary on what I consider our present government's iniquitous policies of border protection, detention of asylum seekers, and encouragement of racist fear in our community for its own political gain.
