Kooky’s Return (Kuky se vrací)
Kooky’s Return (Kuky se vrací), a combined puppet and live action feature, has some lovely inventive puppets made by the team that produced the beautiful puzzle-solving game Machinarium.
A seven year old boy whose teddy bear Kooky has been thrown away wonders what his toy is up to in the big world out there, imagining Kooky as he tries to find his way back home. The film was written and directed by Czech Oskar winning director Jan Sverák and production design was created by Jakub Dvorský (Amanita Design). The release will be on May 20, 2010 in Czech cinemas.
There’s also a subtitled version of the trailer and a FaceBook fan page.

This is so cool – the video was recently posted on Puptcrit, but without reading this I would never have known that it was also made by one of my favourite game designers!
Well, now I’m definitely going to have to find the movie…
The director was talking about english dubbed version to be ready sometimes in September. Hopefully this gem makes its way to world cinemas soon :)
This is a Wonderful Movie! Got some good technical ideas for puppetry from the ‘making of’ Kuky se vrací link.
Please take a look at the 22 stories of Ryan, the teddy bear, on
http://www.ryanlifeofryan.com
We are looking for someone to sketch Ryan from different perspectives, as we would like to expand what we may do with him through (static) drawings.
Also, vastly interested in puppetry techniques for Ryan as I am about to do some 2 very short movies with him (my first effort).
Could you recommend some sites for puppetry?
Thank you for any advice!
Hi there. I’m a puppet maker and appreciate puppetry technique, but I don’t have the skill to be a puppeteer myself, so I ‘m sorry I don’t have any tips. Googling ‘puppetry techniques’ brings up a number of good puppetry sites, and Amazon probably has books, but I would also suggest seeing if there is a local theatre of puppeteer you could learn from in person. Good luck!
