Beautiful curiosity cabinet illustration

When I was making the seagull skeleton prop recently, a google image search took me to sakurasnow‘s drawing of a seagull skull, and then more generally to her lovely blog. In particular I love her beautiful curiosity cabinet designs. And I think there are some new ones on the way! Occasionally they are available in her Etsy shop, and she is also working with them on fabric.

Munny, munny, munny

Paul Vincett from Stitches and Glue sent me some pictures of a couple of custom munnys that he has entered in the APW custom toy contest which is on in NYC at the moment. They are pretty cute – good luck with them, Paul.

It jogged my memory: I’ve posted about munnys once before, so I was curious how Cursters have evolved over the last couple of years. I like this red jellyfish:

Paul Vincett: Monster Workshop puppets

I was very taken with the cool Monster Workshop puppets, particularly the leathery demon puppets (above and below right), that were sent in to the Million Puppet Project at Unima 2008. They were made by Paul Vincett, a 3D illustrator and puppet maker. They were behind glass, so difficult to photograph well, but you can find great pictures on his website, for example here or here.

About 40 of the puppets that were sent in to the Million Puppets Project were auctioned at the end of the festival, and I think the one above right brought in the highest bid of the night. Below you can see two of the furry monsters who had just been adopted on auction night, and the very pink Loverly Gloverly who also went for a top price.

Month of Softies: June bug

You know you are either going loopy, or your new creation has charm, or possibly both, when you find yourself taking it from room to room with you around the house, or with you in the car while driving errands. Especially when its a computer bug. And we won’t mention talking to it.

Two new recycled creatures

After making a couple of recycled creatures a few months ago, I’ve become a bit obsessed with the idea, and have been haunting the local op shops and trash and treasure markets, looking for suitably interesting bags and belts. I’ve now got far more than I have had time to make up! One side effect of this obsession is eyeing-off bags that people are carrying in shops and on the street.

Recycled Monsters: Meet Patrick and Esmé

I had a lot of fun with April’s Month of Softies theme, recycled monsters; thanks, Claire. Firstly, please meet Patrick, who is channelling Patrick White:

And now Esmé (‘don’t mess with me… I play bowls’):

They were made from an old bag and belt apiece, and Esmé has half an old cricket ball for a nose. There are more detailed pictures here. And thanks to Belinda for helping me see some extra dimensions to their characters!
